Jeffe my friend.. that is an 1130 :)
I concede.

I went to a very high res version.

Zooming in, it does have 11 barrels, and even the name plate is indeed correct.

Type 1130 on the Type 054A. Will it be a test/trial? Or does it portend the future? We'll have to wait and see.

By78, Bltizo...you were both absolutely correct.

Thanks kwaig.

Would it be a big job and costly to replace all 730 on all 054A to 1130? anyway PLAN always can reuse 730 on smaller ships (perhaps 056), so it won't be totally a waste
How much is 730 compared to 1130 ?considering they are 100% indigenous, it shouldn't be any problems

It would be a waste to convert all current 054As ciws from 730 to 1130. Sure 11 barrels are better than 7 but there is no pressing need, the improvements will be a small qualitative one.

It could be that they simply decided to have just 1130 for all future roles where the 730 would originally be used. So they won't refit existing ones but future ships will have all 1130 (maybe).
For smaller ships like 056 they might just stick with HQ-10.

Yes, for a small ship, the 8 round HQ-10 is sufficient.

It will be interesting to see if 052Ds eventually get Type 1130 as well. That would lend some credence.

Its settled then, the new build 054A's have the Type 1130 CIWS mounted.

But something's baffling me.

This version (unlike the Type 730 or the Type 1130's on Liaoning) doesn't have the radar or the electro-optical system mounted on it.

That means it does NOT operate autonomously and will have to rely on external sensors and computing power for it's fire control.

It cannot search and track targets independently of those sensors and computers.

From an autonomous (virtually independent) CIWS they opted for one that relies on external sensors and computing power.

The question is WHY?

Or am I jumping the gun and those sensors will be mounted later on?

That seems to be a rather complicated job for the shipbuilder.
