Good pictures 'no_name'

Notice how on the pictures taken at launching at night, have had some photo modification to cover the bow sonar?.....and something else along the hull of the vessel has been disguised.........what is that?

Yet, in the other pictures, we can see the bow sonar as it is!

I don't think it's anything special or changed. The side thing might simply be the ship hull side fin. (for balance, not sure what is the proper term for it.)

US$250 - $300M (exclude R & D) for each 054A is really a very very good value for PLAN. If PLAN had to purchase from foreigners (Russia or France for example), the price could well be over $600M with a lot of restrictions and strings.

And the production is now 20 and possibly 2 more ... so the PLAN must have been very happy with the performance

I think for frigates building 20 or so each and then move on to a next class or major improvements is a good way to keep numbers up while not falling behind in the technological field.

That article states clearly that the statements about the A++ is...

In other words, they have no idea if it is true or not.

And I can tell you that from the pics that the CIWS is not a Type 1130, and I do not believe the PLAN would have any intention of placing one on the Type 054A FFGs in any case.

As to the VDS...that is something they could potentially retrofit to older vessels.

We will have to see if two more are built to a different standard...but at this point I would doubt it.

If they did that, IMHO, it would mean:

1) They intend to go back and retrofit the others.

or,

2) They are going to build more than just two of them.

Time will tell.
