Exactly.......with the PLAN you get more ships than at first envisioned (well we don't know).........but with other Navies, we are given the expected total at onset of construction..........and then we see the final total dwindle over the years!........aka Type 45

PLAN is definitely following in the footsteps of the AB class as oppose to the Type 45 class.. LOL

Ya 9th from HP but 19th of the total since the HD 10th (18th of the total) being launched already.

Plus 11th HD or 20th of the total is currently under construction, infect almost ready to launch. Here is the PIC

I have HD 9 (No. 17) as being launched 27.04.13 and HD 10 (No. 19) in the building dock – your picture. Plus hull components possibly for HD 12 (No. 21).

HP 10 (No. 20) is probably lurking in the shadows behind HP 9 (No. 18) in A. Man’s picture.

I am hoping for 22, as it would complete the six destroyer flotillas, if the two 054 are included.

I'm thinking 24 so they can have the flotillas all mad up of 054As.

I'll be honest I first thought 12 then 16 then 18 now we are topping 20! Ahem all wrong but that's the beauty no other navy can we get such a buz!

PLAN must be very happy with 054A! ... 20 is a large number by any standard, even for USN

My gut feeling, it would go to 22 054A (+2 054) and then start building 054B and God knows how many 054B wil be built
perhaps 12

It says the cost of 054A is CNY 1.58B or roughly US$250M ... very cheap indeed. Perhaps "economy of scale" factor

The similar western frigate would be advertised as over US$500M - $750M .. easy

Apparently Thailand is to negotiate a Chinese proposal of 3 Type 054A class frigates for the Royal Thai Navy, which has budgeted 30 billion Thai Baht or roughly $1 billion for 2 frigates (from Wiki)

why not NSF ?

we were wrong in the past (regarding 054A number), the chance are we way be wrong again

054B may have VLS type similar to 052D (the number would be the same 32) and a 24 cell FL-3000

I am wondering too, whether it would be possible to install perhaps 18 cell FL-3000 on 054A, that's would be awesome. Cost wise shouldn't be a problem, perhaps $1 - 2M a ship

A 32 cell of the type 052D VLS system in the front and a 16 cell VLS in the back would make a nice 054B.

What would be the role differentiation between 052D and 054B then? Would 054B simply be a slightly discounted version of the 052D? I think that isn't likely. I think much more likely any follow up 054A would use the same anti-air system as the 054A, but feature improve ASW capability, which I continue to regard as the weakest link in Chinese capability.

According to Henri.K....there are to be 2 launchings of 054A's by the end of this month (i.e. no's 18 & 19).
One from HP and one from HD shipyard.

The launching at HD shipyard is supposed to be on the 30th Sept!

Anyway....it will give us a chance to see how accurate H.K's sources of info are!........only a week and a bit to find out!
