Few things from that video, the guy announced the helicopter located target 180km away, so most likely they were firing YJ83, the TV editor just edited the HQ16 clip in there maybe because they didn't catch the YJ83 launch. Also great to see the 76mm gun in anti air mode. Lastly that's a long long 730 burst.

It could be the firing sequence number. Missiles are fired in pairs with the outer one always fired first. Just my speculation.

good one, the numbers are odd for the outer pair, and even for the inner ones, anyone with knowledge/experience can explain why?

can the helo locate so far away? 180km, that is a bit of a long shot isnt it

that's the purpose of having OTH helo asset, to provide targeting beyond ship radar limits, so that your uber long range missile does no go to waste

The helo probably can't see ships at 180km, but it can be deployed some 100km ahead of the ship and use datalink to share its view with the ship, so if the helo can see 80km then it effectively allows the ship to shoot from 180km away.

The helo can also fly low and only pop up to illuminate the target when needed.

Is it possible to transmit the location of enemy target to ship, which then fires the missile and have the missile travel for a estimated distance in the general direction of the target before acquiring the target using it's own sensors?
