I shall permit myself to answer for hmmwv: The 12th escort force for the Arabian Sea will comprise LUHU 113 QINGDAO, JIANGKAI II 538 YANTAI and FUCHI 887 WEISHANHU.

I think the best escort force will be a Type 071 LPD, Type 052C destroyer, Type 054A frigate along with a replenishment ship

however i dont think China has ever sent a 4 ship force its always been a combination of the 3

That's right, two combatants (destroyer and frigate or two frigates) plus replenishment ship. Mind, it is not a battle force!

Let me ask a really dumb question here, why do people think that there will be a follow on variant after 16 or 24 054A; did any military insider claim it?

^ deduction from watching orbat, listening to big shrimps, logic etc.

And I believe most towed sonar are just an inch or two thick of what looks like long cord spooled out dozens of meters so it's hardly a unique thing.
