" set " implies more than one.Can you post any more? Do you personally go along with the perception that HP and HD will each do 8 and then stop production of 054's ? Is the picture A.Man has posted no.7 from HP?

it's just modules right now. Nothing you haven't seen before. I'm not of any perception. I use the rule that when I see it, it exists. The one that A.Man is No 7 from HP. No question about that. It will be interesting to see if HD can keep up with HP shipyard.

I must admit that I had entirely forgotten that discussion, probably because I dismissed the report as not credible.

However, to harmonise the various pieces of information, I think it is entirely possible, and maybe even likely, that HD 5 joins NSF, but then as 550 SIPING. In that case, HP 6 and HD 6 will be 546 (YANCHENG) and 547. We shall know in March-April 2012, when HD 5 and HP 6 commission.

It was much easier in the old days, when ships had their pennant numbers put on while they were still on the building ways!

Discussion about 054A here seems to be a little quiet. Anyhow we can confirm HD#6 is Yancheng according to the official announcement from Yangcheng City. It didn't specific say its pennant number but the launch date matches. Regarding Siping it's either 550 or recycle the old Siping pennant number 544.

BTW Yancheng is a coastal city in Jiangsu Province.

Thanks. But LUSHUN ex SIPING is still 544. The PLAN does not like to recycle pennant numbers, by the way.

And since you refer to a launch date for YANCHENG, you probably mean HD 5 which was launched 28.04.11. Could you give the exact quote of the Yancheng City announcement?)

The Thais and the Pakistani ain't that poor to settle with 2nd hand ships, worse obsolete ones as the 054...it's poor sods like the Philippines that'd settle with purchasing USCG cutter for their largest ship in the fleet.

But now that you brought up Thailand...while the 054 did blue-water tested (anti-piracy expedition) the Thais were said to have a bad memory with MIC vessels...if what's on Taiwan's defense magazines and Kanwa to go by that is.

I thought the one launched on April 27th is HD #6, 054A #10 overall? Anyhow here is the full announcement. Only the first paragraph means anything, it says:"On April 27th, 2011. PLAN Yancheng was launched during a ceremony at Naval Factory 437 in Shanghai. It's attended by officials from PLAN armament department, NSF, Yancheng City, and Yancheng military region". First sentence of second paragraph reads:"Yangcheng was named by PLA according to its naval vessel naming convention, it's been assigned to NSF."
