The person who took the picture PSed it for some reason, probably self censorship. Doesn't degrade authenticity of the pic though

on top of this, they do this quite often for PLAN photos. It's pretty clear that is a 054A if you compare it against previous photos from HD shipyard.

A follow on to the Type 054A will probably be built soon.

It at least means one thing; that the VLS deployed on the Type 054A would be able to accommodate larger missiles of such type, which would come useful when cruise missiles are added to the weapons inventory.

I thought a good idea would be to develop something that can replace the AshM/cruise missiles currently in the 8 cells arrangement carried by the type 054a so it can be placed in the front enlarged VLS

Yeah, that would be very convenient. Hopefully the existing Type 052Cs and Type 054As will get upgrades in the future.

I have no doubt the future Type 052D will be able to do accommodate SAMs, ABMs, LACMs, ASROCs, and AShMs in its VLS.
