He said "052D is getting an upgraded CIWS gun..." which could easily just mean that the class itself is being upgraded to 1130 standard. This has already happened to the 054A and as I said, should have happened to the 052D a while ago.

... wait, are you suggesting that all 052Ds will get 1130s?

Because what I was saying is that at this stage we have no indications that all 052Ds will get 1130s. JN hull 9 and onwards were equipped with 1130s while all other JN hulls (and I believe DL hulls atm) were equipped with 730s, and there are no indications of those hulls being upgraded with 1130s.

So the reason I sought to clarify his statement, is because one could mistakenly think he was suggesting all 052Ds will get 1130s to replace 730s, when in reality right now we only know that JN hulls 9 and onwards have had 1130s replacing 730s (fresh out of construction), while all others are remaining with 730s.

"Upgrade" doesn't automatically suggest all previous hulls will get 1130, merely that at least new hulls will get it instead of 730. Again, a ship class "upgraded" with 1130 over 730 while meaning only new hulls will be getting it, is a perfectly acceptable thing to say.

... with 730s.
... to say.

... okay, sure.

I was elaborating so that by78's statement isn't misunderstood by anyone to mean that we have evidence of older 052Ds getting 1130s over 730s, especially in absence of something specifying that only new build 052Ds since JN hull 9 will be getting 1130s over 730s.

I was surprised reading the word "upgrade" from @by78 ... I thought PLAN would put a new CIWS variant on 052D

We all here knew that newer 052D are getting 1130 CIWS :)

LOL I might've failed your test, though, as
  1. there was no connection between the PLAN ships journey and that maritime show, and
  2. your 'SPB' is still Leningrad to me :)
Even while Leningrad, it was still Peter for the locals. If it's any consolation for your sentiment, it's still City of St.Peterburg of Leningrad County. ;)

LOL it's you from the "quiz" Jul 18, 2017
I was expecting the earlier, in time for Naval Exhibition in SPB
which later that day inspired me to conjure up a meeting of the Peter the Great with the DDG-174 "Hefei" this week ... let's wait and see
