052C/052D Class Destroyers

Not sure but consider that DDG-150 and 152 of the 052C, although had no reported issues, made complete Aden deployments and are fitted with the same QC-280 GTs. If it was a engineering casualty due to an inherent flaw they would have had 4 years to spot it (DDG-150 was deployed on 18th April 2014. 1st 052C with QC-280s was commissioned at start of 2013).

If it's inherent, at least the 055 hulls before the first one can wait until the its rectified, and this would likely put a delay for QC-280 installation and production.

Yup. Henri K. seems to be saying the same thing,

173 is being replaced by 174 in the Baltic's.

edit:

how serious is this?:mad: could it effect the entire 052D line?

considering 052Ds and the last four 052Cs use the same powerplants and propulsion arrangement, and that the last four 052Cs have had no problems over the years including on long distance overseas missions and voyages, I would be skeptical if that were the case.

Given the law of averages (not applicable in every domain, but applicable in this one I think), I think DDG 173 may have just been unlucky this time around. If DDG 174 ends up reporting some kind of problem as well, then I think greater concern and suspicion would make sense.

So Changsha is going home ? I hope DDG 173 will be moved fast from India Ocean considering the situation at the border with India.

.........but has it really been commissioned?????????????

There is no confirmation of this on any of the Chinese Navy sites......let alone an image of the commissioning ceremony. This is not to say the ship hasn't been inducted officially into the fleet, but we don't have proof........all we have seen is that the vessel has been completed, but i seem to remember, with the previous class 052C, vessels were not made active months after they had been finished seas trials etc. I'll wait until we actually have news of the event, and its confirmed by the Chinese Navy, until then ship "154" is just loitering around its homeport.............:)
