You might not want to drag what may quickly become a heavy bag around with the CIWS mount, also increase the risk of it getting caught and jammed in crack/crevice.

The 730 is a precision weapon platform that need to move/react quickly.

But I just noticed that the edge of the platform on which the 730 is mounted is raised, so maybe that would stop and collect some of the rolling casings.

Indeed, where spent shells casings are collected, it is usually done using an internal void space.

The problem with that is that it takes up a considerable amount of precious internal volume (bigger than the magazine for the gun, since spent shells are not going to be neatly packed like fresh shells), and creates another potential point of failure in the system, as a clogged collection chute could easily jam the gun.

It just makes more sense to eject the cases out on deck and use the internal space that would have been required for internal collection for a bigger magazine for the gun.

With the Chinese New Year, news and photos have slowed to a trickle. Here's a few high-resolution photos of 172 to pass the time...

I always feel instead of locating the two RHIBs on each side of the hanger, it would be better to keep them at the same place as 052C. So, it will have two hangers or a large single hanger to accommodate two mid size helicopters.

Anyone have any photos of the inside of the 052C hanger?

I was always intrigued as to how the internal layout worked with that VLS in the middle of it.
The hanger is offset to the port side. There is no hanger under the VLS or the CIWS.

Here's two real life photos:

I also modeled a Type 052C and it shows the same:

You can see that on the starboard side they have the compartment where the landing and takeoff are controlled and monitored.

I am more interested in the internal layout. If it's just one narrow, self-contained section, what's the opposite side used for?

The 730 and VLS effectively bisect the rear superstructure, but the 730 shouldn't need deck penetration all the way down to the flight deck, so it should be possible to position the flight control room in the centreline, under the 730, thereby freeing up the right hand side, to allow a second hanger there.

I should have said the rear superstructure. But I am just curious what they have behind the control room that they feel is more useful than a second hanger.
