How long do you guys think it would take to design the successor to 052C?
How many of you think that the successor will only have a small tonnage increase to 8k and how many think it will jump to over 10k?
Personally I think probably will only be around 8 to 8.5k.

Personally, I think it will be around 11K with 144 missiles in 2014

lack of powerful engine, that's the main reason. another major factor is the change being too drastic, too avant gard, almost doubling in tonnage. usually changes are gradual, even for generational changes. F15, F22, and F35 were all not the most advanced design against its competitors for the contract. They won because of mostly reliability, mostly due to relative conservative design compared to its competitors. building a 10k ton destroyer is as complex as building a small city, it's much more than just making the parts bigger. so many things have to be taken into consideration. too big of a stride when running will make you fall flat on your face, that's why professional sprinters take shortened small strides.

How about no? From 'not even Spruance' to 'bigger than a Ticonderoga or Flight III' in one single bound? That's not how the PLAN works and that is also not what the current ship propulsion system, missile system etc suggests.
Besides, displacement is pointless without specifying which.

It has finally happened. The 3rd 052C has started sea trials. Now, I'm just waiting to see more up close photos to compare if anything changed. To be honest, I can't see any changes from looking at these pictures.
