052/052B Class Destroyers

Re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

At one point there were three bridge structures sitting outside the building Hall, waiting for the container ships to be rolled out, and I think you can still see one in A. Man's picture 1, so expect one more.

Similarly, the mast for D4 is sitting outside, so perhaps the launching is not so far away.

I believe so D4 is coming along nicely, I am hoping for two launches in 2014 we can be sure that the hall on the left will most likely not launch DDG

Also I think they will commission 152 and 153 this year and D1 might take longer and get commissioned early next year of we are luckily we could see D1 commissioned this year

As usual plenty of DDG action to come

Re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

I really had no idea where to put this as it appears to cover everything- not only 052 destroyers but the rumoured 055 ( improved 052D or CG?) frigates, subs, carriers everything- and didn't wanted to keep clogging the carrier or LPD thread for a change. I found this, it's a few months old, and have no idea if it's a "legit" list depicting "something", or it is fanboy speculation. I've been reading here and there lately about PLAN developments, and i find it absolutely fascinating even if i'm an aviation head and had little grasp of PLAN matters (or USN, JMSDF etc. for that matter) until very recently.

If it's not much of a hassle and if this is pretty "legit", can someone help with some very short translation of what this list represents? (i looked about and know what each ship type is, except 9 and 10, but what it says in the other columns, blank)

Please provide a translation of the headings, and columns, otherwise most of us are just looking at a list of Chinese vessel types.

Thanks.

Um...that's what i was asking, if someone is kind with translating what that list means (if anything important). I'm not chinese and can't read or speak anything in chinese. Thanks.

Heading for columns (from left to right): No., Model No., Purpose, R&D unit or Production unit, Status

As for the details of the content, I'd leave it to those who believe this list is legit - the first 5 entries are those already in serial production and nothing new there, but those below are stuff that're no way to dig up info to confirm their legitimacy...unless you're NSA and can hack into PLA internal network to dig those intel up.

Re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

CJDBY's Navy Forum Moderator has just posted a new thread. Basically he was saying that according to his sources, the construction of the 055 destroyer won't start until 2015. Meanwhile in 2014 the 052D will continue in serial production with a total number of 12, 8 built in the south and 4 in the north. Of course, these 12 vessels' construction will go into somewhere 2015, 2016 and 2017. So, yah.

Anyway just some new information it can be true or false. I guess 2014 will tell.

I was just considering that, if JNCX still has two 12,000 ton coast guard cutters on their backlog, it would make sense to build them before 055 in building hall 1. That could easily take them into 2015, considering they only vacated the building hall these last few days.

D4 and D5 will be launched this year no question modules for D5 are at the shipyard

D6 and D7 next year and D8 in early 2016

The left hall will cease DDG production and the current hall will either get reequipped or move onto other vessels

I hope they just continue DDG production and keep building this decade get the numbers in get the critical mass

Type 055 CG should be post 2015 in my opinion and I also hope they are in good numbers

If this report/rumor is true, it is an interesting development, but not wholly unexpected.

Many of us have felt that the Type 052D run would be longer than 6-8 vessels. Twelve is a good number and when coupled with the six Type 052Cs will give the PLAN 18 very capable, very modern destroyers. If they start the Type 055 during or after 2015, it will be interesting to see what its actual spcifications are. A larger and more capable destroyer in the 8,500 to 9,000 ton range? Or a bigger jump to a cruiser sized vessel in excess of 10,000 tons?

Yes, time will tell.
