There are only a few pictures of the 'x' configuration, most of the pictures are in the '+' configuration including pictures of test launches from the land based launchers and also from the PLAN test ship, so it seems pretty conclusive that the '+' configuration won through.

Good spot though, only noticed the difference when I went back to check.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

Initially I too was confused with the '+' wing and 'X' wing issue.

But it seem YJ-62/C-602 has the '+' wing and the missile having the 'X' wing is the C-705

I think this clears that up

Re: DDG 052C Thread

but what's the operational difference between C-705 & C-602?

C-602 (Which is the export version of the YJ-62) has a maximum range of 280 km
C-705 IIRC has a maximum range of 220 km.

YJ-62/C-602 probably has a larger warhead and other enhancements as well. Its seeker IIRC has a 40 km range?

Im wondering why has china not launched any new destroyer since 2005 ??

Will they only build frigates from now on?

Dude does that even require an answer?

They obviously have a successor design in mind, which they are still developing on - do you seriously think China will just keep building frigates?? -_-

i am kinda hoping that China will come up with a newer (and preferably larger) design...though there are no evidence as to how far they've got.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

I would say that it comes down to the new array of missile launch systems (hq-16, hot vs. cold launcher) , medium and large size missiles, it is unknown if china is going to go down the road for hot launch quad packing vls for it's larger missiles like the HHQ-9..

the most important factor I think is that while the next generation destroyer design might be close to done, it's the shanghai shipyard move to it's new large offshore facility that is the biggest factor.. the type 52b/c series was built from these yards and since the move the destroyer construction is on hold.. for the most part all of china' modern destroyers are test runs and not a finalized production run of the likes of type 054a.

Since this new shipyard is far from civilians the days of internet spy shots of new advanced PLAN ships being built will be much harder to come by, until they are launched and doing sea trials. Compared to the US, much of china's armed forces modernization (especially the navy) has more or less been in public view due to it's facilities located in heavily populated centers with lost of civilians with telescopic lenses, in contrast it is much harder to get pics of US navy developments in the construction phase unless it is sanctioned by northrop grumman/ general dynamics/ lockheed-martin shipyards for publicity purposes and not so many amateur shots

Other chinese shipyards have built destroyers too. Jiangnan relocation isnt the reason of the dearth of destroyer building.

054A is bigger and better than most Chinese destroyers.

For the last 10 years, Plan has received 8 destroyers plus so many frigates.

How many years from now that you needed to be a full trained Captain?
