Looking at the aerial views of the 052C and 052D side by side, the only major difference to the outline profile of the 2 classes that i can see, is that the stern of the 052D has been squared off.
What do members here think that this change was done for?.......i mean it doesnt add any real significant area to the helicopter pad.....just an observation!

Much more powerful radar and advanced electro systems,bigger VLS with more missiles ,better gun if not bigger. I can tell you the
major changes with my first obeservation. Plus someone believe that the D type is slighterly wider than the C if it's not longer.

Yes......we know those changes..........i was just refering to the change to the outline profile of the ship!

Incidently having searched the web today for news on the Type 055 Destroyer.......it appears that news and possible specs on this ship are now surfacing.
A site with a forum has already been launched in regards to this new Chinese destroyer............and boy its gonna be one mother of a fighting ship, if the specs given turn out to be realised.
From translations from Chinese articles, it appears the first keel will be laid down sometime later this year displacement is expected to be around 12,000t. I also read that further type 052d orders have been made to DLS.
This news may not be true, but then again i believe there must be some truth in it!

That 12,000 ton number has been floating around for so long, I'm inclined to give it the benefit of doubt.
There have also been rumours floating around that 055 may start construction later this year. Combined with a supposed 052D construction line at dalian, JNCX could certainly be free to start 055 this year once its halls are cleared of 052D.
I'm quite looking forward to see this supposed 055 ship; if it really is that big there is no way it can be the derivative of any existing chinese surface combatant. Meaning it will be the navy's first clean sheet, major surface combatant design since about 052B and 054. Quite looking forward to hull size/configuration not to mention exterior shaping.
I wonder if they'll have picked up any lessons from foreign developments like zumwalt and type 45, not to mention their own significant shaping 022 features.

There may be some increased weight due to the 130mm gun vs the 100mm gun as well and the radar and its entire system is certainly heavier. But I do not believe it will be a major increase. We will have to see what the PLAN officially lists her at. Perhaps 7,500 tons max is my thinking...maybe 7,200.
The length and beam of both vessels are the same. They are built on the same hull. The differences are in the forward main deck house which has ben rebuilt and reconfigured to carry the new radars, and in the aft deck house which has been reconfigured to have the hangar in the middle of the deck house and the FN-300L on the top, not needing the room for those two round VLS cells there any longer.

At this other forum there has been this guy whose "information" have been correct for the most of his part. Now he also claims the exact information that was posted ... when the Type 052D first came out. Seems like this 055 rumor may have more meat than what we give it credit for.
