Traditionally the most important components of ICE cars for carmakers have been the engine and transmission. How hard they were to get right made it so that only the largest carmakers could create competitive products.
Does anyone know if EV drivetrains function the same way? Meaning only large carmakers with a complete, advanced powertrain can produce competitive products, or are the parts (motors, reducers, inverters, OBC, DC/DC, PDU etc) simply commodities that any small startup can piece together to make a decent product? Are EVs going to bring a new era of tons of small car companies?
