I think the fact that Philippines have been the most vocal about this indicate they are the least likely to be selected. It is kind of cool to see different countries fighting for BYD to build its cars there.I don't think BYD will select Philippines
So we have BYD & Great Wall building plants in Thailand.
Wuling building plants in Indonesia & Vietnam.
I've actually said several times before, but I think BYD should build plants in both Indonesia & Vietnam. In Vietnam's case, they already have such a large operation there. The energy cost is reasonable. Vietnam gov't is actually working to connect itself even more closely with Chinese rail network so the infrastructure and supply chain from mainland to Vietnam is really easy. And IIRC, Vietnamese people actually want EVs for environmental reasons.
Indonesia I think is a good play for long term growth of that country. It's a large market without local brand and have already embraced Wuling Air. They need a more premium brand now. That's what BYD is. The transportation to Indonesia is not as convenient, but I'm sure the energy cost will be reasonable and the gov't there is bending over backward for EV investment.
