  • Ambassador to France says US had apparently offered assurances that it would not shoot down the balloon and seemed to have accepted Beijing’s explanation
  • Lu Shaye tells French TV that it would have been ‘inappropriate’ for the US secretary of state to visit in the wake of Washington’s recent anti-China actions
A senior Chinese diplomat said it would have been pointless for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to visit China because Washington had provoked Beijing on many fronts recently.
Lu Shaye, the ambassador to France, also said it was “shocking” the US had shot down an alleged spy Chinese balloon because Washington had apparently offered assurances it would not do so and expressed its “understanding” of Beijing’s explanation that it was a weather balloon that was blown off course.
He said China shot down balloons when there were “strong suspicions about the motives”, but in this case: “What is shocking is that the Americans had already expressed understanding vis-à-vis China’s explanations and had apparently promised not to shoot it down.”
China had told the US it was a civilian vessel used to monitor the weather that had strayed off course “completely accidentally”.
“I feel that the US accepted China’s explanation at the beginning,” Lu said, citing a previous Pentagon statement saying the airship would not pose a risk to the military or people on the ground, and “they asked China to let the airship leave US airspace as soon as possible”.

So the US is willing to tear down the international systems they have built since the end of WW2, the very systems that have helped them to rule the world; just to counter China knowing full well the US will likely suffer as much as China if not more as a result. Very mature and calculated... not.

Getting elected in the US just primary takes skills of a "salesman"/"scammer". Having good credentials is secondary.

It is unhinge voters influence unhinged politicians who influence unhinge voters. Beautiful American Democrazy

I think Xi should file for a restraining order against Biden.

What's up with that creepy old dude fantasizing about Xi all the time. Everytime he opens his mouth to say something, he always mentions Xi
Xi is the alphamale that creepy Brandon wished he could be....

thats why he asked rhetorically which world leader would want to trade places with Xi.

I suppose if there's any remaining (pro-US/pro-West) doves in the CPC party ranks, they would all be purged, sooner or later.

So, what do you guys think China should do to counter this? These bills, once passed, will be directly challenging the Shanghai Communique and openly violating the One China Principle.

These series of actions can only mean one thing - It is only be a matter of time before either Washington DC orders Taipei to declare their former independence from China, or Washington DC would do it themselves. Then China would be forced to act.

This is also the reason why I don't really agree whenever people say "time is on China's side" and "the initiative on the reunification of Taiwan is on Beijing's side". Problem is, what if the US-led West intends on denying Beijing those two leverages by acting first? Is Beijing going to let Taiwan officially slip out of its control and become a formally independent and sovereign country without doing anything in response, and letting its territorial integrity and sovereignty be trampled upon?

Cut off all relations with America, as in immediately zero exports to USA...

Go straight to AR.

Kill the dollar

Lets see who can last longer and which side was relying on whom more...

U.S. Treasury's Yellen still hopes to visit China but offers no details on timing

"I still hope to be able to visit China to meet with economic counterparts. But I don't have any detail to offer you on just when, and I really think that's up to State (department) and DOD (Department of Defense)," Yellen said, noting that she did meet with her Chinese counterpart in Zurich on the way to Africa.
Why the rush Grandma Yellen?
