2+2 talks: India vows to back Japan’s plan to develop ‘counter-strike capabilities’ aimed at China​

In 2nd round of their 2+2 foreign & defence ministerial dialogue, held in Tokyo, New Delhi promised to play major role in Tokyo’s decision to revise its National Security Strategy.​

New Delhi: Sending a strong signal to China, India Tuesday said that it would support Japan’s plan to acquire counter-strike missiles as part of security and defence cooperation between the two countries.

It added: “Acknowledging Japan’s determination to reinforce its defence capabilities, the Indian side expressed its support to work towards enhanced security and defence cooperation”.

This comes at a time when there’s an intense debate in Japan on whether Tokyo should go for counter-strike capabilities under its revised National Security Strategy, which many in that country oppose.

Oreshkin opposed the buildup of Russian reserves in yuan​

Russian reserves should be kept in rubles and not in other currencies, even if they are the currencies of friendly countries, such as the Chinese yuan, said Russian presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin.

“My opinion is obvious: the dollar and the euro should be exchanged for the ruble, and not for other currencies,” Oreshkin said, speaking at the plenary session of the Moscow Financial Forum, RIA Novosti reports .

He recalled that the Ministry of Finance had previously announced that it plans to increase the investment of reserves in yuan.

“China is a country with a budget deficit of 5% of GDP. This year it is 5.1% of GDP. Why does Anton Germanovich (Siluanov, Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation) suggest investing in a country with a large budget deficit, and at the same time says that they will not invest in us if we do not have a zero deficit (budget)? Oreshkin asked.

“If we continue about the currency, in fact, my opinion is that you always need to believe in yourself first of all, and not look for some kind uncle in the West or in the East, who can invest something and we somehow will help, ”Oreshkin interrupted the argument.

“I agree with Andrei Leonidovich here: we need to build a system where we depend on ourselves and invest in ourselves,” the presidential aide emphasized.

I agree with him. They should invest in dollars and euros, then the West will steal from them another cool $200 billion, and then they can come to China with a begging bowl. Plan complete, as Presidente Putin would like it this way

You have to remember that Russia recently started turning towards China. So I am not surprised a pro Western faction still has significant influence in their government.

China should gear up and buckle up as fast as possible in case the need to fight a two-front war is forced upon China - Western Pacific in the east and south against Taiwan and the US + her dominions, and in the Himalayas against India - all by herself.

Russia can only offer so much help with her large stockpile of nuclear warheads (and even that may no longer be enough).

Forget about Russia providing direct military asssistance through conventional means, since the Russian military would have been drained thanks to their (mis-)endeavour in Ukraine.

I don't think China ever counted or planned on Russia's direct military help.

The war we are talking about is going to be in the air and sea domains. In these domains Russia is worse than useless, its actually a net negative if it involved itself (well maybe except their subs)
