I actually think it's both about $$$ and not believing the lies from the govts in the West. Not all Westerners are clueless and a sizable of them do question the propagandas. The shareholders only care about $$$ and keeping the company profitable in the China market.
Unfortunately it's not because they actually believe China is innocent and that the human rights allegations are false.
China gains (in terms of business) at the end of the day but the lies will continue to linger..
Damn straight, those places have already lost the magic awhile ago
Europe would be the biggest loser after it loses access to Russian cheap oil and gas. De-industrialization would be in full swing as energy intensive industries would be crippled. On the other hand, NA especially the US would be the biggest benefactor.
Why do these people keep on making these stupid assumptions. Xi Jing Ping is not the only one running the show, it’s the entire politburo, one that quite frankly when compared to many other nations (even on such as Russia) is far more able to work together to get proper results. Look at the USA and how almost every single city has not only tent cities with in big infrastructure that is rapidly falling apart. And they are supposed to have the more dynamic and robust of all the systems of governance in the world although to be quite frankly honest, this has to be taken not just with a pitch of salt nor a bag of salt back a complete sack of salt
The shareholders' main goal is to make tons of $$$. Everything else is secondary. If they agree to this proposal, it will screw up their bottom line. Not only that, the Chinese govt and consumers will likely retaliate against the company. The monetary benefits of rejecting the proposal outweigh agreeing to it. That's why they did it.I actually think it's both about $$$ and not believing the lies from the govts in the West. Not all Westerners are clueless and a sizable of them do question the propagandas.
The fact that the shareholders rejected the proposal means they have weighted up the potential reputation damage vs profits. They likely have sensed that the public is either getting numb of the constant anti China bashing or starting to question the narrative, or a bit of both, which means the potential reputation damage is not great anymore.
EU to propose ban on forced labour goods amid pushback over China’s alleged Xinjiang abuses
- European Commission hopes its risk-based proposal can rid the market of tainted goods without flouting global trade rules
- Model differs from Washington’s approach of banning Xinjiang imports outright on suspicions of forced labour
In a move that could cause new fissures in already fraught trade ties with China, the European Commission is set to propose banning products involving forced labour from being sold in the single market.
But Brussels’ pitch next week will adopt a dramatically different approach to the United States in the blocking of such goods, due to concerns about breaching World Trade Organization rules and over appearing to directly target Beijing.
The European Union ban would not be location specific, and would apply to goods made both inside and outside the bloc, according to officials involved in the planning.
