Russia is now entrenching so the Ukrainians are able to conduct limited company and battalion sized attacks, it might give them some gradual progress.

I'm interested to see if the Russians are pulling troops out from the Kyiv front to the East or South though.

Some progress in regaining some controlled territory maybe, but if they can't breakthrough the Russian line then it is fruitless...

That is an interesting question, maybe the Russian won't see the need to pin down Ukr forces in Kyiv, now that they've made some progress in thinning down the herd in the east. But if the Russian do pull troops from Kyiv they'd have to pull everything or risk being encircled themselves

Just a thought, one of Chinese Red Army's favorite tactics in the civil war was to feint attack on a town and ambush the reinforcement. This sort of tactics can be magnified to a larger scale today with modern ISR and air power, destroy enemy in maneuvering.

Of course if the enemy is determined to stay bunker up in the cities then you won't be able to do anything about it, but if the enemy is willing to come out to play.....The Russian may not have the man power or the air power to pull this off in the start, but I wonder if the PLA may prefer this type of method

This may be an instance of that tactics at work, but I'm talking about overall strategy. The Russian went for lock down and isolate enemy forces and defeat them in detail, an alternative can be to allow or even encourage enemy to maneuver and defeat them in the open. Of course maybe I am "纸上谈兵“, just some thought on possible alternatives.

Edit: It maybe a concern that Ukr forces may coalesce into large concentration of force too hard to swallow for the Russian, but Russian has air power and more long range fire power on their side, those would have higher efficiency dealing with clumped up forces in the open away from the civilians.

The Ukrainians are kneecapping Russian POWs. This is clearly a warcrime. We can criticise the Russians for warcrimes too. But on the Russian side there were no records of torture on this level.

These Ukrainian combatants will never be trialed by the IOC. We all know that. Their only trial will be the battlefield, when the Russian and Chechen units finally come for them.
