They need to reform the volleyball system. Why is mens volleyball always so crappy?
Is China especially known for volleyball? It's perfectly normal for men's and women's teams to perform differently. Unless the athletes are playing badly, I'd cut them some slack.

As things stand female Chinese athletes have got more than half the gold medals, but the male team has also had some success. Best to look at it in the round rather than worry about performance in what I think is a niche sport.

WTF so turns out there is reason behind China getting robbed of that medal. A biased INDIAN Judge.

Look at Judges comments on China just few years back.

This is ridiculous. Surely this can be appealed right? Indians cant win medals themselves so they wont let others win too?

I just love some of the arts today.

Swimming is an very expensive sport.

Those Olympic-sized pools (never seen one in my entire life) is over DOUBLE the size of a standard college/university pool. Costs a ton of money. Olympic-sized pools are HUGE and not many highschools, colleges, or even nations can afford to build them in large numbers.

China is getting richer though, it's a sport it definitely can easily improve upon.

In some of the bigger cities apparently you can’t graduate college unless you can swim at least fifty meters in a pool. However I don’t see this trickling down to towns any time soon.

2016 Rio is disaster due to the scandal of mixed doubles and women doubles team. Mixed doubles are husband and wife and women doubles are best friends and you know the rest. Wife found out husband is cheating with her best friend and teammate. Both top seed teams lost. Husband did win the men doubles.

I think badminton would exceed people's expectation. Most people think two golds are the best outcome but look like the Chinese badminton team has a good chance to exceed this.
Yeah at first i could not believe it as whispers began on the internet. Thought it was just dumb rumours cuz sounds like a soap opera lol. Scandals dun help but they are not new to China badminton. Lin Dan was caught in extra marital cheating scandal. Li yongbo the successful former head coach for years been surrounded by bad reputation. Not too mention the feud with Li Mao former Malaysian coach from China. But it did not really affect the results until this time

I also think recently the rest of the world just caught up. The golden period of chinese badminton was hard to maintain when traditional strong badminton countries like Indonesia, Denmark and Malaysia improved.

Interesting china hired foreign coach, a Korean for their badminton national team for the first time ever if I'm not wrong.

Gotta give props to the American table tennis commentator on channel 7 braodcast. I don't know his name but he was pretty funny and enthusiastic. And in contrast to the usual foreign commentary style on china athletes he was full of complement and praise. In fact outright adoration. Not just China athletes but the training system and coaching. He did mention how players need to behave and stuff but there wasn't the usual negative connotation.

Also the table tennis commentator on Chinese TV is cute. I got this from weibo. I can't get Chinese stream so I actually cannot confirm if she really is the one though. Her name is 高菡

Adoration comes after acceptance of another's dominance. Shi Zhiyong, the lifter who won the 73kg gold medal in weightlifting, is known for being a potty mouth. He sometimes shouts, "Wo cao!" when he lifts. He may mutter it during the lift and the he may shout it again after a successful lift. His coaches have told him to stop dropping the F bomb over and over again on live TV during Chinese national comps but he says he can't help it because it just comes out when he's excited. Since he became dominant, "wo cao" has become a sensation in the weightlifting world. Weightlifting fans from countries all over the world buy shirts that say "Wo Cao!" and they sometimes shout it too, often without understanding the meaning or how to actually pronounce it.

Lesson: Strength and hard power is the only way to attain soft and cultural power.

Interestingly, Shi in incredibly generous and not much for business. When Seb of Weightlifting House asked Shi if he could use his image with "Wo Cao" to sell overpriced t-shirts, Shi said no problem without asking for any part of the profits.
