Dun put too much hope in badminton, China domination of this sports have been steadily declining since 2012, aside from mixed doubles which we have arguably world no.1 pair, but the others events are middle to long short for gold. Good for everyone I guess, there were complains of China dominating the sport since the peak days of lin dan and maybe further back but I was too young and not on internet lol.

I don't know actually. It's not exactly limited to just volleyball, aside from gymnastics which men's out perform women's, other sports it's the norm.
Why there is Judo at olympics or taekwondo but there is not wushu?
Even if they progressed from their group they would not have won a medal. When you’re struggling to beat Turkey and Russia, no chance against the stronger teams in the knockouts. That’s what happens when you rely on 1 player to carry the team. Putting all eggs in one basket.

2016 Rio is disaster due to the scandal of mixed doubles and women doubles team. Mixed doubles are husband and wife and women doubles are best friends and you know the rest. Wife found out husband is cheating with her best friend and teammate. Both top seed teams lost. Husband did win the men doubles.
I think badminton would exceed people's expectation. Most people think two golds are the best outcome but look like the Chinese badminton team has a good chance to exceed this.
That's the problem with staying on top for too long -- people get cocky and entitled and think that they'll triumph no matter what they do.

I expect the biggest reason is the same as why kendo isn't an Olympic sport - lack of consensus over scoring. The IOC does not like sports that have subjective scoring methods because the audiences are normally unable to understand why someone has won/lost. When Tokyo won the 2020 Olympics there was discussion as to whether Japan might pick kendo as a demonstration sport, and I think the kendo federation opposed it because they were worried about being pressured into accepting electronic scoring.
Now you might say the same issue about subjective scoring applies to gymnastics, but that's a sport with a lot more international following and has been in the Olympics for a long time.
Also I expect wushu just doesn't have enough international popularity to make it into the Olympics. Which might also be said of kendo.
