I don't really care for that so-called traitor. He can burn for all I care. What I care is the rest of the less anti China section of Hong Kong society (they are on a spectrum).

What I felt during that Chen Meng vs Doo Hoi Kem is not a nice feeling, because I don't want to be treating Hong Kong athletes like the enemies whenever they go up against Chinese athletes.

What I'm saying is, why not be on the same team instead of some forced separation? I'm also cognizant that there are many hurdles to go through before that can be a reality.

Well, maybe I shouldn't really care whether Hong Kongers really wants to represent China, not "Hong Kong, China".

I don't think I'm getting through to you. All I can say is, It is best to leave it at this system because if nothing else, is the quotas system. This way we have more "Chinese territory nationals" competing.

I mean to be fair she can’t just deliberately lose the match just so china can progress. It's against the rules of fair competition and the spirit of Olympics. China actually has some history of deliberately rigging matches in badminton and table tennis of their athletes and it's severely frowned upon by chinese fans themselves,

Moreover HK table tennis team is coached by brother of Liu guoliang the head coach of mainland China table tennis team. I doubt there are any traitors there, unlike the badminton team.

@getready is bloody hard work convincing @Shaolian that we are all Chinese. Even showing him footage of Hong Kong gold medal winner taking his stand on the podium with Chinese national anthem playing won't convince him that it is a Chinese national that won the gold medal.

Just think how ironic that we have witness in the last two years of the troubles in Hong Kong, and the only people that's been troubled are the Chinese government. Think about it. If they (Hong Kong populace) weren't considered as Chinese, why would the leadership expend so much energy on it!

This is for you...

The roaches like Joey Siu congratulating her, what a joke. People complaining her fan she's holding says CHINA.

I hate her with every fibre in my body.

You got what I'm trying to say wrong. Of course no one is calling anyone to deliberately lose their matches. What I was saying is that it's about time that Hong Kong, or Macau for that matter, to compete in team events under a one China banner. Because the emotion of treating a fellow countrymen or women such as a Hong Konger or Macanese as a foreign adversary when going up against a mainland Chinese athlete leaves a bad taste, so to speak.

I want to cheer any Hong Kong or Macau athlete as part of a Chinese contingent, at all times, but everytime they come up against the mainland, in team events, there is this dissonance going on. In an individual event, like a pro tennis, badminton or ping-pong tour event, then this is no issue, because you are essentially representing your own self.

Ahh... but anyway, seems like what I'm trying to convey here is not being fully understood. It's my personal oppinion anyway, so I guess cheers, and enjoy the sports!

Didn't read your message while I was composing my previous reply. Yeah, I fully consider Hong Kong or Macau people as Chinese, full agreement here. My previous message might shed more details on my thoughts.

Hey, I'm a nominal Cantonese myself (Malaysian Chinese), and grew up with a healthy diet of Hong Kong entertainment (the TVB variety). Just my thought that if one day they could be representing China itself would be nice.

Good to see HK performing well at the Tokyo Olympics, but shouldn't it be time for HK athletes to compete under the Chinese banner?

The Chinese national anthem is played and HK gives "Chinese nationals" extra medal opportunites.

If HK athletes compete under Chinese banner, all you do is cannibalize your own competitor slots opportunities, since each nation has a fixed quota of athletes it can send to each discipline/sport.

Sino-world team size:
  • China: 406
  • Chinese Taipei: 68
  • Hong Kong, China: 42
  • Singapore: 23
  • TOTAL: 539
Anglo-world team size:
  • US: 613
  • AUS: 478
  • UK: 376
  • CAN: 371
  • NZ: 211
  • TOTAL: 2,049

HK has 10% competitor slots of entirety of China. So China should be exporting it's surplus talents to HK for competitor slot opportunities. Merging HK's slots will just cannibalize yourself with less slots and more opportunity for Anglo-nations. And unlike Anglo-nations, China can actually claim Hong Kong, China and Chinese Taipei as wins of their own.

This.

China should do more to move their second tier talent to Macau and Hong Kong so they can actually compete at the Olympics rather than stay home during this meet. They may get lucky and win like the 8th seed Tunisia swimmer.

That's what I've been trying to say, but failed badly. Thank you my friend. You've put it much more eloquently than I ever could.

I've been saying this regarding quotas which is best that Hong Kong, Macau and other sino world perform separately. After all, who ever sino wins. The national anthem is the same. And deep down, we all know we are all Chinese.

Take our little Siobhan for example, flying her Hong Kong flag proudly and proudly choose Hong Kong over Eire.

FB_IMG_1627465654252.jpg

This is what has been written about her.

@bobsmith

Yeah good ideal. For example, if China is quota to take only two athletes per discipline. Then give the third and fourth athletes Hong Kong citizenship. That when the top boys and girls have an off day. They others can stay have a chance to win.

Win win for China. Lol
