I believe that is an entrenching tool which is basically a short shovel that is easy to carry. If I remember correctly, the old ones have a longer and wooden grip, so this one might be a completely different entrenching tool.Is that a shovel on the ground? Do they have a detachable handle that screws into the hole at the back of the shovel handle? So, the one in the pic most likely is extendable.that looks like an unexpectedly complex detachable handle... it seems to contain quite a few compact multitools hidden in the center cavity.
