I have that scope on my Type 81, it looks cool, it is a bit of a collectable, but it is really a bad scope in practice.

the FOV is tiny, the zoom is very small, and the clamp on mount is not very tight and does not hold zero when you move it. It takes a long time to install the scope. Furthermore, you cannot lift the dust cover to clean the gun without unscrewing the scope off, but this action will make the scope to lose zero.
It's an interesting look at how the Chinese learn their ropes in terms of gun optics.
Note that the manual listed the year is 2000 and by that time Type 81 is already on the way out of PLA service. It's developed by government institute. Optics that getting adopted in recent years are those from private enterprises which PAP trialed plenty of them extensively, and those started off as OEM or copies for export market, took their cues from existing Western products.
Starry Sky urban camouflage being worn by a naval garrison in South China Sea.

It's said that the urban pattern adopted as island garrison pattern, fabrics geared towards tropic climate. At least it's no longer the ridiculous smurf camo, though to be frank there's hardly a "suitable camo pattern" for island garrison if you ask me .

From what I understand, the island is mostly sand around the perimeters, lined with some palm trees. The rest is mostly concrete buildings and a few greenhouses to grow vegetables. So the urban pattern might not be a bad choice. The smurf, on the other hand, would have been a complete disaster.

Good point.
Smurf camo scored full points for stupidity and hardly anything else. When compare with it, almost all other patterns would work better.
