I remember this, damn I'm getting old. My uncle is in two of those photos, both from the back...hehehe. He was the lead engineer for one of J10's critical areas.

Pretty clear photo of the TVC testbed J-10B. Unfortunately, the nozzle itself is obscured.

It's not too beyond the pale, see X-31.

My guess is that we'll see the J-10D near the end of 2018, if we are to go by CAC's historical precedents. A new J-10 variant is released in five-year intervals.

1998: J-10
2003: J-10S
2008: J-10B
2013: J-10C
2018: J-10D?

It probably means they have confidence in the engine. After all, the testing specifically pertains to the nozzle and the FBW system. Everything else about the engine should more or less be proven already.

F-16 MATV, X-31 were all single engined. Though I must say, I don't see a spin chute on the J-10C TVC mod.

IMO It looks like J10C, not B.
