Those 2 newspapers have always been known to be pro-Beijing and no one reads them.

And second..it's very easy for you to think resentment is from jealousy, although that's probably the worst logic in the world. Jealousy therefore protest therefore cripple their own economy and not go to work? That's some real logic eh?

The only good things out of those papers are for handling dog poop
Give reasons why Hong Kong under British colonialsm, where profits flow to london and governor is appointed, is all great and dandy. While, China provides more and bailed you out of 1997 financial crisis, is disdained ?

CCP Chairman Xi Jinping is more nuanced than most writers or journalists give him credit. I like

description of Xi as a leader that will response to hard power with even greater hardness, but if approached with gentleness, he's likely to respond with greater gentleness. It's just a one liner, but there's probably some truth to it.

that's more true for Hu Jintao. Jiang was very accomodating back in the old days, well liked in the west. but since Hu China has gone down the road of not backing down an inch on matters they appraise as "core interest", which is not out of order albeit sometimes prompts debate about what actually constitutes core interest.

I honestly don't know how many billion times I have explained how and why HKers are in the streets now and feeling this way, so I'm gonna give you some very simple answers or you can go find out by asking HKers how they feel.

1. If by economic reasons, it's the increased wealth disparity and property prices that the HKSAR isn't acknowledging.

2. Major grievances are social and cultural conflict. Clashes with new immigrants and those who flocked to HK for its social safety net, along with resource competition in HK. All these incidents are further aggravated by HKSAR's disregard for these issues and letting them cook. Under the British rule we at least didn't have these types of issues.

I highlighted 2 because that's the major grievances. Sure, economy is one but the real concerns stem from 2.

Don't forget all this began with high school students taking to the streets, so don't tell me they have jealousy towards mainland for its economy.

And like, seriously, if you guys seriously really base everything HK to economic reasons, then I have some really bad news for you:

a. Your life, or values, revolve around money fixes everything.

or

b. You don't understand HK enough to know the social issues and cultural issues that HK is going through and what it's like there right now, therefore all you can come up with is economic reasons and ignored all the other more important aspects.

I am seriously leaning on the latter as to why a lot of you keep bringing up economy as the only reason.

Life is not all about money, and money can't buy happiness.

Like freedom from fear of tanks running over you. There are some HK people who believes there is a greater cause then just $ and cents.

what's the most disgusting part in it? am from Central Europe, so just asking ...

I think he's disgusted to think that some of us in the West would like a major crisis, just for the news coverage, and as an opportunity to "bash" China. That would be disgusting to all of us.

I do believe that China would benefit from showing a little "good faith" here, and by tempering their response, which it seem they are doing at present???

The senior officer told the protestors they're HKers too and they're just taking orders, even though they may have other thoughts, and thus hope both sides can understand each other. This earned the applause of people.

Re: Chinese Daily Photos 2014!

OK, that does it. There's violence, there's injuries, and there's property damage, so it's time to send in SWAT teams and restore order. If SWAT can't do it, then send in the PEP, and if they can't do it, then send in the PLA. No government can allow anarchy and once peaceful protests turn ugly, it's the duty of the government to restore order. Rule of law, people, not rule by mob!

For your information, HK's SWAT is called SDU, Special Duties Unit, trained by the SAS and sometimes with DEVRU.

This is why I and a lot of other folks are supporting this movement in particular.

You just expose yourself as an anti immigrant right winger. "Immigrants don't adapt" and "immigrants are just here to profit from our social benefits" are the two most commonly used anti immigrant retoric all over the world. I see that you are a anti immigrant right winger when it comes to HK but you are a leftist multiculturalist when it comes to Canada. Right ? Isn't there a bit of inconsistency and hypocrisy on your part. The reality of immigration is a complex issue and how much the immigrants takes and contribute to a society is always difficult to define. That is as true for HK as it is for America, Europe or Canada.
