HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Vietnamese naval vessels and Chinese ships collided Wednesday in the South China Sea as Hanoi sought to prevent Beijing from setting up an oil rig in an area claimed by both nations, a Vietnamese government official said. The official said no shots were fired and there were no reports of injuries in the incident, the most serious in years between the two countries at sea. If neither side steps down, clashes could break out between the two navies in what has long been regarded as a possible global flashpoint.

China's stationing of the oil rig over the weekend has been seen as one of its most provocative steps in a gradual campaign of asserting its sovereignty in the South China Sea, parts of which are also claimed by Vietnam, the Philippines and other Southeast Asian nations. Two foreign diplomats said Vietnam dispatched up to 29 armed naval and coast guard ships to areas near the oil rig when it became aware of China's intentions. Citing a Chinese diplomat, one said the Vietnamese deployment was meant to be a "show of force" to get Beijing to withdraw the rig.All spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information.

Utterly unprofessional for anyone being an "authority".......no matter how one spins it. None of the moves by the official show any attempts to restrain, rather he thought himself being in a bar fight and was trying to exact retribution which is pathetic when it's a man vs a woman. If it was a real attempt to restrain, the other two security personal would have stepped in.

The recording, which seems to have captured only a part of the confrontation, shows the official dragging the woman, who is sitting on the ground, for several metres before she stands up and repeatedly hits him with her handbag.

The official is then seen shoving her hard and slapping her several times, pushing her out of the picture while two uniformed security personnel watch from nearby.

China moved the giant deep-sea oil rig to an area close to the Paracel Islands on May 2 accompanied by a large flotilla of naval vessels. It also announced that no foreign ships would be allowed within a 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) radius of the $1 billion rig.

Vietnam immediately called the deployment illegal and demanded China withdraw the rig, around 220 kilometers (140 miles) off the Vietnamese coast.

All these articles but not one can list the exact coordinates. Anyone have any idea how close the rig is to the Paracels? Within 12 nm of the Paracels?

The Chinese Christians whose churches are being destroyed need not fear. The Church is just a building. They need to stand on Pslam 91.

They should file proper paper and permission next time to the local authorities instead of doing things illegally if they want to build a church.

From what i understand from other forum members here is that there was a crackdown in Wenzhou of buildings that did not conform to the building codes. If we don't hear about other churches in China being demolished then it is what it is a building code issue.

Look at it this way. If God is all powerful, then he could have prevented the demolition easily. The fact that the demolition got carried out anyway means that the event was God's will. So, those who criticize the situation would basically be criticizing God's plans.

MANILA, Philippines—An unruly Chinese tourist who created a scene at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) on Monday is likely to face direct assault charges to be filed against her by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for getting into a fight with one of its employees. The bureau identified the tourist as Jiang Huixiang, 38, allegedly a Mandarin language teacher at Xavier School in San Juan City, who arrived in the country via a Cebu Pacific flight from Beijing three days ago with no work permit but admission and multiple extension entries on her passport.Jiang was apparently the woman captured in a video circulating in social networking sites screaming and fighting off moves of Rashid Rangiris, an on-duty confidential agent of the BI, to push her into a room at the airport.

But a report from duty Immigration Supervisor Nelson Valdez said Jiang screamed at, hurled invectives, kicked immigration agents and bit the hand of a security guard at Naia Terminal 3 when she was denied entry upon her arrival on Monday.According to the report, the immigration officer at the counter referred Jiang for secondary inspection when he noticed that she had multiple extensions in her travel document since 2012.“After establishing that Jiang had violated immigration laws by not presenting a work permit, the officer calmly and respectfully informed her that she cannot be allowed into the country,” the bureau said. Jiang reportedly told authorities that she had been working as a language teacher on a tourist visa since 2012.Quoting witnesses, the report said Jiang immediately shouted at the immigration official after she was denied entry. This prompted Rangiris to come over and ask her to calm down. But Jiang allegedly screamed and hurled invectives at the immigration employee.

Here is the Video. CALM AND RESPECTFUL ? The immigration officer was captured on video dragging the woman several feet, he then proceeded to shove, slap and punch her after she hit him with her handbag.
