They also don't actually perceive themselves as having military superiority, if they did they'd at least YOLO into SoH with a CSG and try their luck. Sarah Paine's knowledge of history is pathetic. She says that China is Continental power? The Zheng He voyages (1405-1433) took place long before the Europeans discovered the Americas. The size of the ships and fleets of the Zheng He voyages dwarfed any European expedition during the Age of Exploration.
China knew how to be a maritime power centuries before the US declared independence. And China was a responsible maritime power. It used that maritime power for diplomacy and commerce. Not for invasion, genocide, slavery, colonialism, and Empire.
So what is Sarah talking about? Yeah China did mess up eventually, but the memories of Zheng He's voyages are still remembered in Asia. Centuries later, China returning to take it's place as a maritime power is not exactly news. That the US is now effing up its naval supremacy is non of China's concern.

No need using traditional Chinese feudal dynasty to contradict. Finally, Ming and Qing also enforced the navigation ban. In ancient times, China did not focus on the sea, but the CPC broke this tradition.

IIRC Qiang people weren't innocent in history, but rather they kept harassing Shang border protectorates so eventually Shang got fed up and said that's it it's human sacrifice time, an ancient case of FAFO. Shang had a much more advanced social structure so was better organized and much more powerful. Qiang didn't get wiped out completely and took part in the Zhou uprising.
