The video was about prosperity created by Maritime powers (Constantly comparing British with Russia not USSR) since they are trading and are protected by Navy. while Land Powers always fear invasions and can be disturbed by stable neighbors.
This is not scientific way of comparison. because if you are trading nations than it means you are constantly on ships or residing in faraway lands managing other people (the negative impact of interaction with that foreign society can bring diseases or long term social problems) instead of improving your own home.

Navy cannot save a country from cruise missiles and drones from Air, surface and below surface attacking both Maritime and land targets. It is Space/Drone tech that hostile power can provide surveillance. This is the direction of tech.
