China isn't going to go to war against Japan. It's not practical; not while Taiwan is still tied to the US, and it doesn't suit China's current interests. That said, it's not going to be just talk - they're going to ramp up the gears diplomatically, economically, and militarily. I can expect a lot more patrols out by the Senkakus, excercises next to Japanese home waters, and a lot more intrusion flights into Japanese airspace. The goal is to wear down the JSDF by forcing them to respond, and to overall humiliate Japan.

It's honestly a perfect opportunity for China to publicly pick on an American ally, and Japan has managed to alienate everyone else in region so that nobody is willing to help them. In any other circumstance China would be happy to work with the other party to ease tensions but you can tell that the Foreign Ministry has no intention of doing so in this case.

The objective here isn't to bully that guy for domestic audience. If Takaichi thinks sending the lowest figure on the totem pole over to China to get an earful will mean China backs down she has another thing coming. Of course it's plain to see for Takaichi to retract what she said is political suicide and she won't do it, in which case it suits China just fine and China has a whole deck of cards to play against Japan for at least the next 6-12 month.

Honestly it makes sense why the CIA installed Takaichi in Japan as it was the last cry of the weaboo in trying to maintain white American primacy in east Asia. Japan is to the US what India was to the British empire .

The funniest thing so far from this episode is Trump saying some allies are not friends and worse than China, then pulling out Typhon missile system.

He's got the whole "get away from me, I don't want any blood on my suit when shit goes down" vibe going on.
