Wait, I thought just a few weeks ago, the Indonesian Minister of Defense himself confirmed the deal is already signed!?
They juuust bought Mig-29M2s though. Which forms recent procurement spree of Su-30MKA(apparently to be upgraded), Mig-29M2, Su-35se, Su-34e, Su-57E. That's a lot, and while J-10ce will arguably make more sense in this AL-31 world - it's a bit too late at this point.Su-57 is fifth generation and Su-34 is a fighter-bomber, they're not comparable or counter part for J-10C.
Algeria usually prefer twin-engine fighters so that they can cover all of its territory, but maybe they're interested in buying some J-10Cs, say 48, so that they put them specifically in the northern front for A2A operations against French fighters if needed.
Algeria have a way bigger budget and can afford the deal beside what they're already doing, and without caring about the consequences from US & the west --
To be fair, Algeria buys from everyone without issues, including China (artillery, corvettes, small arms come to mind). Everyone=literally, they do major equipment procurement from EU and US as well.Yeah Algeria has a history of reliance on Russia. So I believe they are more familiar with Russian systems than anything else. So they will like stick with Russian fighters in foreseeable future. Egypt could be a good market for China(only issue might be US objections.
Mig-29m is more likely to work with their IADS, like Egypt already do, and it's not for Air-to-Air battles. Su-30 their only choice to partner with to upgrade it is China, russia can't upgrade it and they are in need for this upgrades for their own platform. They juuust bought Mig-29M2s though. Russia is majority source, but never the only one.
....
(We don't seem to have an air force exports thread?)
