This is honestly why I think China should erase all Colonial Heritage in the coastal areas and espcially Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao and Hong Kong as a fuck you to the west because this action will definitly provoke a response that will be nothing but copium. Keeping the colonial heritage allows the tourism sector to actually white wash history about how they protray cultural fusion when in reality it's cultural replacement. I honestly don't know why Xi hasn't ordered this already because he wants to establish cultural confidence in China. The historical value of the heritage is non existant because they're built pretty recently along with it being brief (around 1920s - 30s) and their economic value is marginal because the land itself is still valueble like the Shanghai Bund. If you replace the colonial buildings it would change nothing at all.

No U.S. Forces were harmed in this strike. Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America. BEWARE! Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!!!!!!!!!"

Part of cultural confidence is not feeling unduly threatened by foreign symbols and influences, because you are confident that they can be accommodated and absorbed harmoniously into the whole, which remains unique and strong.
As with the rise of Islamic fundamentalism or any number of other examples, the increasingly grasping, xenophobic and bellicose behaviour of the United States is not a sign of strength, but the sign of a culture that no longer believes in its own fundamental strength and no longer perceives the future as a natural ally. Rather it is the sign of a culture that perceives itself to be in decline and is desperate to arrest that decline by any means it can think of, to save what can still be saved (alternatively, to loot what can still be looted).

Actually removing actually reinforces cultural confidence because it rejects the idea that western culture is superior so we don't need it and that the Colonial hertiage that lasted very briefly had no impact on the culture and we have moved on from it completly. The greeks as well as the Balkans have done it to Ottoman heritage that lasted 400 years and the Baltics and other post soviet states are removing Soviet/Russian Empire heritage to emphasive their identities aswell as other former colonies. Whats stopping China from doing the same?

Well, I don't see any packages of cocaine there, and somehow it doesn't occur to me that they would sail all the way to the US on this boat. It would be funny, if unfortunately 11 people hadn't died. And did the entire US fleet set sail because of this? Did they find any narcotics?
