Iran buys a lot of equipment from China.
It is just that they prefer licensed production or joint weapons designs.
See their cruise missiles for example.

Iran wants to be able to produce their weapons themselves. It is government policy.

And Iran are in both BRICS+ and BRI.

bad policy since today only superpowers like usa and china can produce a full spectrum of weapons. During the cold war only usa and soviet union could do the same. It's ridicolous to think that a poor country like iran can build complex systems like sams or fighter jets since also singled out (they can in consortiums) rich european countries and in some way russia can't.

Iran isn't as poor as some people think. Because of US sanctions their currency just looks less valuable.

Iran can produce their own F-class gas turbines for example.

Russia ended up sending CFM-56 engines in Airbus aircraft to repair in Iran. They can do it even under sanctions. Iran even produces the monocrystaline turbine blades for it.

Iran do this out of necessity since they are under US sanctions since 1979.

Iran got a T-72 tank production license from Russia. They can produce it in a full cycle including the engines.

Iran also can enrich the uranium they need with their own gas centrifuges which is more than the US can do. And they have actual hypersonic missiles unlike the US.

Iran is predominantly Shia (95%), led by a Shia theocracy. Sending 'head-choppers' is just not a feasible plan of action, because it's not an unstable Sunni region that can be ideologically & demographically penetrated.

The more likely goal, which we have actually seen some signals of effort being put into, is by working with minority ethnic groups to stirr up instability and anarchy. This would be the Kurds, Balochis, and the Azeris. The former two which are infamous especially for terrorism at the behest of foreign powers.

foreign affairs embassies are the way for China and Russia to use Rail road trade from Chabhar port
through the Afghanistan route, looks like China and Russia give a damn doing trade through Afghanistan
from Iran probably barter system or oil or gas in lieu of Russian or Chinese expertise in arms and other
ammunition expertise, now the people will think india is the partner with Iran in this port what we dont
consider is Afghanistan also in partner in this trio so if two of the countries agreed to use this port india
can not deny the access for other countries

North Korea could do it, no reason any similar sized country cannot.

As per Iran preferring Su-35, I read that's because it comes with tech transfer and production line. Obviously, China won't give J-10C tech or production line to anyone.
