They really like that 200k number. First Lutnick claimed China couldn't make more than 200k advanced chips a year. Including smartphone and AI chips. Except Huawei sells millions of smartphones a year. Now the claim is 200k AI chips. Probably false as well.

Lutnick estimated that China could probably produce about 200,000 advanced chips, like the kind used to train artificial-intelligence services or run smartphones, a tiny number compared with the country’s demand.

IDC reports that Huawei has shipped around 12.9 million smartphones in the Q1 2025 Chinese market.
That is 13 million in just one quarter. These people are wrong by over two orders of magnitude.

I mean we know TSMC told the commerce department that they made 3 million Ascend die for Huawei last year. That means they can sell at least 1 million Ascend-910C this year if we assume 2 per 910C.

I don't know why they keep saying the production is 200k chips a year, lol.

Even in 2024 with limited production capacity, Huawei already sold 48.4 million smartphones. 2025 would be even more, not less.

Cambricon has also started producing AI chips on SMIC process this year, on top of the number of AI chips from Huawei.

You might start to understand some of the recent bizarre trade policies if a commerce secretary is constantly receiving bogus data like this.

Kirin X90 review by Geekerwan. From the limited benchmark tools available on HarmonyOS. Single-core performance using spec 2017, roughly on par with Apple’s 2020 A12Z and Intel’s Core i7-8565U. In multicore on ffmpeg, 10-core Kirin X90 outpaces Apple’s M1, M2 and M3 processors as well as Intel’s Core Ultra 7 258V.

HarmonyOS PC not supporting a proper developer environment at launch is a true blunder.

China Reportedly Unveils World’s First Fully Automated AI Chip Design System amid U.S. Curbs

The report suggests that in terms of CPU design, the system has produced the world’s first fully automated CPU chip, “QiMeng No.1,” which is capable of completing the entire front-end design of a 32-bit RISC-V CPU within just five hours. Notably, with tape-out finished, the chip boasts Intel 486-level performance and packs over four million logic gates
“QiMeng No. 2,” its upgraded version, is reportedly the world’s first fully automated superscalar processor core, delivering performance on par with the ARM Cortex-A53, EE Times China suggests. With a scale of 17 million logic gates, it has reportedly designed to meet the demands of high-performance edge computing.
the research team plans to push QiMeng into advanced nodes like 3nm and deepen collaboration with foundries to speed up its rollout
According to the paper summary on arXiv, QiMeng is structured in three layers. At its foundation lies the Large Processor Chip Model (LPCM), a specialized chip model designed to overcome hurdles like scarce data, complex knowledge, and accuracy assurance. Building on this, the middle layer features intelligent agents that automatically design both the hardware and software of processor chips. Early results show that parts of QiMeng are already proving effective in real-world applications.

It did not even launch with the IDE you use to code and build native HarmonyOS apps. It did launch with a code editor that is based on visual studio code but Python is broken in the video and i think i saw java broken in another.
They keep control on the system level and don't give them control to user, that the problem.

This is like a holy shit moment.

The United States bans EDA from China, and this news of AI auto-cad for chip design is now being attempted.

That last line in the trendforce article, that states, "Current AI systems still struggle to juggle all these demands at once, the report adds." is rather bogus I believe.

They can probably run that design through some simulator to get some hints, apparently there are simulator with the EDA software.

This is the future of chip design. Done in China!
