Canada has a low De minimis and Temu is doing fine here. Walmart and Amazon will also be affected by tariffs against China so I don't Temu has much to worry about.

Midterm only matters if he is still playing by the old rules, but the whole point is to have enough of his people in the right places by then that he will no longer need to follow any rules again.
People always forget that Amazon is directly around I think 70-80% Chinese by seller origin lol. Kind of funny when I see people talk about cheap temu trash as they instead in their superior intellect pay 100-1000x for Amazon relistings of Chinese stuff from alibaba. Amazon should be an insult imo, very apt for the current state of affairs.

Im wondering if a grand deal has already been made:
China gets:
- global primacy in tech, consumer goods
- no more US resistance to China expanding influence sphere
- control over the gulf Arabs, at the cost of letting Israel win the war on Palestine
US gets:
- Chinese tech will implicitly help Trump/Musk/associates avoid personal embarrassment
- allowed to bully it's immediate neighbors
- opportunity to build a limited local industry market (read: oligarchs kickbacks)
- annex Gaza, at the cost of handing saudis/middle Eastern oil to China.
A lot of what Trump is doing makes way more sense then. He's looking after himself and his clique's power only. If US can avoid fighting China head to head, all the chaos will benefit Trump personally, so he can build a new America in exactly the image he wants. "the last time you ever voted" indeed.
It's like the fall of the USSR back then. The federation leader has collapsed under external, internal pressure and the greed of a few elites. At the time, many Warsaw pact citizens were shocked, wanted the alliance to stay and believed in USSR victory and superiority into the last. But their opinions were irrelevant in the face of central decision from Gorbachev.
