The point i am making is there other beside west that has wealth that can attract top of the talent. and they will not compromise on Real estate to make it cheaper. and how effectively they have dealt with Europe in Africa it will not be surprising they attracted that talent. there is intelligence behind this wealth creation and accumulation.
This investment does not mean they believe on every thing but to part of every thing is the gain.

That was me, I was the one who called it weapons grade...

Here is the thing, by Deepseek publishing the methods and the weights, the cat is out of the bag, genie out of the bottle.... Even if US tries to TikTok Deepseek its too late

All the talk about limiting Open Source LLM by capping training compute is like horse already left the barn when now Huggingface is publically replicating R1

Even if US tries to regulate AI and ban self hosting or local inference, they cant force other nations to all do the same

Sure they can resort to GPU hostage holding with the AI Diffusion nonsense and putting countries on the blacklist tier but at the rate China EUV/GPU is catching up this will backfire long term for sure...

And so..... Their only one shot is a straight shot to ASI with a less than 2 year timeline but if R1 causes the bubble to pop prematurely then its game over.... Nvidia style

This might end up being the beginning of what ends up being the rug pull of the century

So not just a nuclear attack (heck even Japan survived two of those) but an existential civilization ending event. (if this ends up costing US the race to ASI)

Live by the sword, die by sword. US pinned all its hope on AI, went all in, and if DeepSeek manages to pop the bubble at the very top, well the resultant chain reaction is going to make the first Manhattan project look mild in comparison.

I doubt such a deal is happening especially this early. TikTok is more important to the US. China can get way more than just than anything to do with TikTok because Trump needs China's cooperation on a bigger macro deal.

Expanding on this, from the start of the well, Gregorian Year, we are witnessing a collective mental state descending upon the Anglosphere mirroring in some respects to how China felt during the Opium Wars or how the Arabs felt during Napoleon's invasion of Egypt. To recap, because its all been happening so fast
  1. The year began with the humiliation of the American military class, as they witnessed China beat them to the development of a 6th generation fighter jet.
  2. It then followed with anti-China propagandists witnessing the evaporation of all their hard work (one shudders in applying such a term to what essentially amounted to being a paid bully) with the migration of TikTok users to Xiaohongshu.
  3. And of course the Silicon Valley panic over Deepseek R1, got nothing to say that hasn't already been said.
In a way, the realization is beginning to settle in on the Anglosphere that they are no longer at the center of the world. The distinction here is that before it perhaps was a reality that was always in the making, but the Anglosphere still had many things going for it that they could keep the illusion alive that such talk was just hyperbole while their societies remained ahead of the pack. Today, outside of a few fields such as military power projection, chips, and movies/tv shows, what does the Anglosphere have going for it anymore?

All these defeats are taking place amidst the backdrop of a Americans ushering in an administration that surprise surprise, rather than focusing on maintaing the Anglosphere's edge with all its power and might, is instead using it to bully segments of the population that the uneducated masses dislike or simply have been told to dislike by the media to compensate for their shitty lives. And Trump's fans codify such bullying as "getting things done." Granted, Chinese are no strangers to this as well with how often the imperial court continued to scheme against one another while the barbarians were at the gates, but it will never cease to amaze me how declining empires threatened by the emergence of stronger powers can still be so pre-occupied with infighting and blind to what they see coming at them. Not that we mind obviously, in this case. ;)

I don't think this has permeated the general public's consciousness yet. The feel I get is still many of them think it "has" to be copied or derivative of something the West has done or had under wraps because it is "known" that the Chinese only copy and cannot innovate.
It's taken as axiomatic, as an article of faith and assumed to be true, hence any evidence to the contrary is dismissed.

Even when there might be grudging admission of some innovation, there are still comments along the lines of "They would innovate even better if they realize they are being oppressed. If only they knew, they would yearn for freedom and rise up to overthrow their government"

I have the same thought.
The short lived tik Tok ban showed how weak the US govt is at confronting tik tok and the Chinese govt was very open to letting people do on XHS. It was a win win for china either way.

Why would they suddenly be ok with selling Tik Tok to the Americans, and not just he US portion but global operations? This is a large steal. I would be very surprised if the usually competent Chinese govt drops the ball on this.
