TBH congress needs to pass a bill to ban 小红书 ASAP, I'm seeing a bunch of Free Luigi memes posted by Chinese netizens underneath Tiktok refugees' posts.
For reals because these social media are out of reach of Western MSM and China focused they give TT refugees an unfiltered view into everyday life in China just from osmosis. You know that thing China's been doing with the visa free period and people go visit and post vlogs of them going "oh shit, this is totally not what I was lead to believe from our media", it's like that only in much much greater scale due to lower barrier of entry. It will destroy all that consensus building work they've been doing.
This is legit a worry to them. As we know CPC sometimes treat Chinese people like children and baby them too much, maybe that's not for the free spirited yeeha types, but I'll wager it's actually attractive idea to some Americans too. Right now when something comparable happens in China and US at about the same time, like say the earthquake in Xizang and fire in California only people like us and Chinese people with interest in international affairs do a comparison and go "you know CPC is actually doing a pretty good job thanks to 同行衬托". But if instead Americans and Chinese are on the same social media and they see on one hand PLA reaching the earthquake zone within a few hours and have setup shelters and handing out hot food within the day, and on the other hand the US government response to the wild fires in LA were fire hydrants have no water some of them (particularly the down trodden working class) will get ideas like "you know maybe there is something to this whole Socialism with Chinese Characteristics thing", then next minute they start to develop a class consciousness.
