Could you elaborate? I'm assuming the implications are good for China since Ethiopia is part of BRICS and Ethiopia having access to a port in the Gulf of Aden through their deal with Somaliland would definitely help connectivity between China and Ethiopia.

They could have and should have overthrown him if that story was even true, which I do not believe for a millisecond. What these two have lost here is incalculable.


I was talking about China's own interests rather than saving Assad. Assad is safe and sound. He will live a long and happy life away from all of this chaos. Regarding Taiwan, I used to think China could wait the US out, but at this point I have absolutely zero faith that China will ever recover Taiwan. They don't do anything about anything at all, even when it's simple cheap things. Even Pakistan still double deals on them with the US, allowing terrorists to blow up Chinese infrastructure inside Pakistan and China sells their J-10CEs to them. Myanmar is still getting obliterated by US backed terrorists right on China's borders. The Philippines, SK, Japan, all still host the US and are completely owned and operated by the US and China still does nothing about it.

You're calling for WWIII. The use of force should not be invoke so cavalierly especially in the case of China. I don't know if you're Chinese or have Chinese blood but you ought to know the level of bloodshed the Chinese people have paid for in both blood and treasure during its fight during the turbulent times from the downfall of the Qing Dynasty all the way to its war against the blood thirsty scums of Imperial Japan.

Chinese leadership is fully aware that if and when the use of force is use, especially against the U.S. primacy it'll have to end up in victory nothing else matters.

You're mindset and approach to this situation has been severely affected by the downfall of Assad and the appearance of an American/Israel victory which suggests to me that you're from that region or a westerner that's in a political wilderness or refugee -- lost faith in your own country's political system.

China will fail in that regard because it's not in their modus operandi in both history and grand strategy.

Another odd move with Trump inviting Xi. Something is up. I’ll agree with one thing I heard said about how Trump thinks is he likes to do the unexpected. Did Trump grow a brain and realize the US is not as in control of the world as many Americans want to believe. Biden could not escape being anti China because any non-hostile position on China was going to be interpreted as Biden being in bed with China. That’s in part why the saying “only Nixon can go to China” because he was so anti-communist that no one would dare charge he was sympathetic to communism therefore he could make deals with China. Oddly Trump is the only one that can do the same thing and a lot of Republicans will fall in-line if that were the case. It’s so hard to believe Trump has that kind deep thinking but who knows…? He is very away he doesn’t want to be blamed for Americans dying for his policies in a war. He didn’t take on Kim Jong Un when he was causing trouble. What makes anyone think China would be easier? We will see.

The trade would benefit China-Ethiopia, yes, but there are other things happening. Taiwan has been the only country besides Ethiopia to recognize Somaliland, it hosts a rep office there, and has been investing in Somaliland. Taiwanese are always looking for new ways to normalize secessionism.
As for the view from Trump admin, here's a snippet:
The support for recognizing Somaliland from Africa watchers on the US right is ostensibly about long-term relations with people in the territory. But it’s also about strategic military and shipping interests in the region, as well as countering China. In particular, the Bab-el Mandeb strait in the Gulf of Aden between Somaliland’s Berbera port, Djibouti and Yemen is a “critical shipping choke point” for moving goods and military wares in the sub-region.

Basically, US recognition of Somaliland will obviously come with strings attached, such as building a military base meant to counter China.

Why would China even need a naval base in Syria when most of China's attention must be on Taiwan? China does not need warships in Mediterranean to protect trade routes through the Suez and the Red Sea. That is the job of the PLA force in Djibouti.

Projection of military forces beyond the Indian Ocean won't be a priority for China until Taiwan is taken care of.

With the Russians in Tartus, do you seriously think there was even room for Syria to rent out to China to build a meaningful naval base?

The land corridor through Iraq is just a dream when the US still controls the bank accounts of the Iraqi government.

After Assad lost half of Syria to the rebels on the east and north, what are still there worth China to invest in?
