Kurds are Israel's mercenary army. SNA is some Al qaida/Turkish mutt. The latter is slightly less shit than the former, and if they throw out the former, they have proven to be a positive trade compared to Assad who just sat around not taking action on them.waiting is far too costly. Russia either decides to do it in the near future or never. the window of opportunity to act militarily is not infinite.
we don't need to speculate on the position of the HTS regarding Iran because Julani keeps on declaring Iran to be the enemy in all his speaches since he took control. also the Iranians and their allies on one hand and the HTS on the other hand have been killing each other for the past decade. saying that we have to wait to see whether the HTS is an enemy of Iran or not is like saying that.. Russia has to wait in Ukraine to check whether Zelenksy is an enemy of Russia or not.
and regarding Israel the HTS already declared they have no intention of fighting Israel.
also what do you mean by saying "help the Sunnis against Israel?" you make it sound like the Sunnis are just one united entity. every country and every group has it's own interests. you can crush the HTS and still have great relations with countries like Egypt.
Russia spent a decade fighting the terrorists in Syria. they can still reverse it since the HTS is overstretched and had no time to build fortifications.
also hypotheticaly let us say the HTS actually betrays their CIA handlers and actually fights Israel.. well who gives a fk about fighting Israel? Russia's priority has always been to save their ally that is Syria from having the black flag of terror raised on Damascus. Russia's mission was never to "fight" Israel.
and in any case restoring Russian control of Syria would be much more beneficial to Hezbolah (and thus to Palestine) than having the NATO mercenary army control Syria.
Russia might indeed use force to ensure loyalty, but it doesn't have to be with full invasion. The Syrian people cast their votes for the green flag, there is no going back from that. What Russia can do is to simply coup the (seemingly already minority anyways) elements inside the new Syrian government that are anti Russian/not rabidly anti western. This is easier to achieve than a full erasure of the "free" Syrian government.
Russia's priority is not this "prevent black flag of terror over Damascus", that's only cheap virtue signalling. Russia's priority is weakening and throwing disarray into NATO, in preparation for the greater upcoming conflict. To this end, they will do deals with anyone, even Israel or some Syrian fundamentalists.
The Russian power expansion goal is always in Europe, not in Middle East.
