It was Mao who said "We Must Unite All The Forces That Can Be United".As I said, a fence sitter who thinks he can play both sides and get away with it will find himself in a hard position when it's his turn and no one will want to help him.
When he asks for help we will say no.
The west turning against India was inevitable, the disconnect between Indian nationalism and their skin colour in western eyes is irreconcilable. The west only accept relations with slaves, and Indians, for all their faults, won't be slaves.
It doesn't mean China should give concessions, China shouldn't, but the world isn't zero sum, there are always win-win solutions. Its up to India to choose win-win over zero sum, if they do choose win-win, China should reciprocate. At end of the day China just need to win, China does not need India to lose.
And yes everyone knows India isn't reliable, that's already baked into the calculus when doing business with them, e.g. no you should never sell them stuff and send invoice after, but there's no reason to not send them stuff if they paid in full up front.
