You'd be shocked how friendly Russians could become towards the West after Putin is no longer the big boss. Russians are Europeans, don't let anyone tell you otherwise and it would be foolish for China to think it has an eternal friendship with Russia.
It doesn't necessarily need to be the case. The closer you are to someone, the more hatred can occur over time.
And the stronger you are, the more your neighbors could fear you. This is especially true with Baltic states, Scandivanian states, Poland, Romania, and even Ukraine. Just like is the case with East Asians between China and South Korea and Japan.
Ukrainians and Russians are essentially the same people, but that closeness brought up fear and hatred.
But I agree to a certain extent that more Western European countries like Germany could be Russia's natural allies today.
But that is if they were not under the US occupation. But they are, so no hope for that as long as the US exists.
The EU is a consensus organization, so as long as you have anti-Russian Baltic dwarfs and others, they could block any decision to cooperate with Russia for Germany or France for example.
So both the US and the EU first need to disappear in order for Russia to hypothetically reconcile with some present-day EU countries.
Also, Russia's main population density, opportunities for expansion and assimilation, Russians left outside the country lay in Europe (Ukraine, Baltics, etc), so if they wanted to expand their territories they would do it more in that direction,
As opposed to going to expand in Asia from relatively sparsely populated Siberia like some delusional Westerners think.
Also, it is wrong to classify Russians as just Europeans when they have quite a lot of Muslim and Asiatic populations.
Russia was always a block on its own, for example, they would always bring up the Byzantine more than Western Rome.
