Lulz, I think he just undid a lot of hard work by diplomats.
Lmao look at Campbell and Blinken's reaction. Burns, Kerry and Kritenbrink are just starting in disbelief. Those two ladies were also present in the meeting with Xi, does anyone know who they are?

Was it that difficult for Biden to not say yes? Anything would have been better than a yes. His normal incoherent ramblings would be a way better answer.

So, how does that work? High-level military communication ended due to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan last year.

What has changed since then to now change course?

Joe Biden and Xi Jinping agree to resume high-level military communication

US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping have agreed to resume communications between their countries’ militaries at a summit designed to stabilise relations after several years of rising concern about a possible conflict over Taiwan.

I don't think China gets much except empty promise of One China principle. As anyone important in the US that needs to go to Taiwan has already gone to Taiwan. Biden administration can now reassure China that the US would continue to adhere to the One China Policy. In addition, it is an election year, so Biden administration would avoid to provoke China in the Taiwan strait. That's about it.

Although, China has never cut off communication channel between the US and China for a very long time. So it is a matter of time before the communication channel would be restored. Of course, most Chinese observers probably think it is not a good idea. I concur but it doesn't really matter either. Nothing positive or meaningful would ever come out of re-engagement with the US as the US is too polarized and politicized at the moment.

Just the fact that they are being adequately pressured into making public promises of that sort, however empty, is a signal to the rest of the world that one party holds the position of strength, and it is not dementia president.

It is not 1984, it is that other book, Animal Farm.

As Orwell wrote, I believe it was the pig saying it, it oniked out the famous words, "We are all equal, just some are more equal than others."

If we want to know what America is all about, study those two works by George Orwell.

Hail the pig!

, U.S. ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, and Kurt Campbell, a top White House China advisor. San Francisco Mayor London Breed also had a spot at the head table.

According to the place cards, Cook was seated next to Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. Event organizers said Musk attended the VIP reception, but did not stay for the dinner.
Xi delivered the keynote address, his most expansive remarks so far in his U.S. visit. He used the speech to present a view of the U.S.-China relationship that differs significantly from Biden’s.
“The number one question for us is, are we adversaries or partners?” Xi asked.
“If one sees the other side as a primary competitor, the most consequential geopolitical challenge, and a pacing threat, it will only lead to misinformed policymaking, misguided actions and unwanted results,” said Xi.
It was not lost on the room that Biden has described China in each of those terms in the past.
