It is definitely in production now. I am a bit lost why rifled gun? The trend nowadays is to use smooth bore. The only thing that smooth bore cannot fire is HESH ammo
Both rifled and smoothbore can fire APFSDS not sure about HEAT

The 105mm on the ZTQ is a derivation of the Royal Ordnance L7 gun, which is probably the most long-lived direct-fire gun designs of the modern era. The advantage of sticking with that design family is familiarity with its properties as well as having the full selection of ammunition developed for that gun. The 125mm is overkill for the adversaries this new light tank is anticipated to face and developing a brand new 105mm smoothbore design is a waste of money when a perfectly good rifled design already exists. And yes, the 105mm can fire HEAT, HESH, and APFSDS, as the US demonstrated with their own L7-derivative, the M68.

Actually, smooth bore gun can fire HESH also. Smooth bore gun can fire any ammunition rifled gun can. However, rifled guns remain more accurate at long range than smooth bore guns. Rifling is only a significant weakness when using HEAT munition, or fragile munitions that doesn't leave the barrel with very high kinetic energy, like a gun fired missile. But even then it is possible to reduce the weakness to a minimum by using rifle driving bands mounted on ball bearings.

If they scale this up, the Chinese would have themselves quite a decent MBT. No more of that ammunition carousel design flaw that blows up if the crew compartment is penetrated.

Turret's looks proportionally better to 96 and basic 99, but did they include an isolated crew compartment? Hoping for a Object 640 level of protection in next mbt project.

If they still using the Russian-type ammo and autoloader setup, that ain't gonna happen.

What you mean about "New bustle mount autoloader" in ZTQ Light Tank?
Can you give me more little insight about that.
Thanks in advance, sir.
