Zhuhai Airshow 2022

With the MD-21, MD-22 and the turboramjet and scramjet engines.

Who is GARA that supposedly makes the MD-21 and MD-22? Is it a private player? Can't imagine gov's serious hypersonic aircrafts get shown publicly.

Some members have mentioned the engine maker for these two exhibited engines - a cooperation between CAS and some private venture in Hebei? Again these aren't the combined cycle engines that were flown with either Tengyun or some other project last year/ 2020 right? There were some large images of combined engine ground test and size seems similar to fighter engines.

But the combined cycle here is assumed to be for SSTO/TSTO craft or some larger hypersonic aircraft.

Interesting that we have yet another scramjet or exotic engine shown. Where do these two engines fit in the "known" test flights and projects that are actually gov backed? Appears to be for smaller high supersonic/ hypersonic drones or missiles. The engines at least appear suitable for drone or missile size.
I think the idea behind these engines is that they provide test bed models to study propulsion designs that can then be used to inform larger scale applications. They’re not themselves intended for use in service, at least not yet.

haven't been following too closely, were we expecting J-35 reveal or was it just random twitter rumors?

You probably know that, but just clarify for others members. These are the engines standing next to MD-22. It is highly likely that they are for MD-22 and probably MD-21. The turbo-ram takes off and reach m3.5, the scramjet takes over up to m8.

My impression was that this would be a rocket plane. You can see something that could possibly be a small intake on the bottom, but I am not sure.

There is a FC-31 scale model being exhibited in Zhuhai.

However, I don't think that the PLA is willing to showcase the actual J-35s in Zhuhai until the J-35s have been in active service with the PLA for some time.

It does have what appears to be air intake inlet underneath the fuselage, right in between the landing gear wells.
