You are right, that was a typo.
Most likely of the J-16D. Look at the engine it is the feathered WS-10 variant that was not intially fielded on the first J-16s and we have got a photo of a J-16 with a serial since 2019

So the J16 no longer uses the infrared system? or is it situated elsewhere on the chassis?
A second J-20 display model sitting so close to the one under wraps?
But isn't the one left - even if labelled J-20 - a FC-31?

Hmmm. You are right. That should be the FC-31.
Are you are talking about the IRST? If you are, you should also notice that the gun is also eliminated from the design.
J-16D is a electronic warfare aircraft, equivalent to the American EA-18G Growler. The Growlers also has their guns removed, and the F/A-18E/F does NOT have built-in IRST to begin with.
