Why would an export variant have carrier compatibility?
A good point - was thinking that most countries with aircraft carriers wouldn't consider China as a source for modern carrier-bourne craft (US, Russia, UK, France, India, Japan, Australia, Italy), but others may be a possibility (Thailand, Brazil, possibly Eygpt?).
If the rumours of a PLAN version of the J-31 turn out to true, it might make sense to offset developmental costs with export sales...

Thai, Brazilian, and Egyptian amphibious vessels have extremely limited deck space, so they're better off purchasing V/STOL rather than CTOL aircraft. I don't think developmental cost would be an issue if the PLAN has already purchased it (and thus provided the necessary funds). In fact, the person who started the latest rumor has said exactly that.
Was there a sneek peak event for the public? I'm surprised photos were allowed to be taken prior to the event.
Security concerns? Can you post photos and videos after the event when you return home? I'm hoping you would be able to record (and post) videos of the J-10 w/TVC, J-20 and J-31 demonstrations.However given the program my publisher prepared and especially the online restrictions he issued due to security concerns I'm not sure how much I can post directly from Zhuhai.
