By the sounds of it, Y-20 and J-31 will both turn up at Zhuhai and do flights, now that state media is circulating the rumour...

Military expert: Y-20 to be commissioned within two years

(Source: China Military Online) 2014-10-22

BEIJING, October 22 (ChinaMil) -- The new-generation heavy military transport aircraft Y-20, independently developed by China, will debut at the 10th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai city of South China’s Guangdong province in November this year.

With the maximal takeoff weight of 220 tons and the loading capacity of over 66 tons, the Y-20 is the largest aircraft developed by China so far and is considered as a major milestone in China’s industrialization and military modernization.

Xu Yongling, a military expert, said in an interview that the Y-20 has a loading capacity that’s equivalent to that of mainstream large transport aircraft in developed countries. Its successful development will give a strong boost to China’s military influence in the world.

The Y-20 recently completed its first test flight between two different fields, indicating a major breakthrough in its limitation and reliability. The aircraft carrying out this test flight is the third prototype plane, while two other prototypes already carried out the test flight verification successively in January and December last year.

According to Xu Yongling, the Y-20 had its maiden flight less than two years ago, but its technology has basically been finalized and can be demonstrated on public occasions. The first Y-20 is very likely to be commissioned to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) within two years.

J-31 stealth fighter to appear at Zhuhai air show

(Source: China Military Online) 2014-10-23

BEIJING, October 23 (ChinaMil) -- Over 130 aircraft of various types will participate in the 10th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition to be unveiled on November 11, 2014 in Zhuhai of south China’s Guangdong province, and the J-31 stealth fighter will also appear in Zhuhai and conduct a demonstration flight, according to Nanfang Daily.

The J-31 stealth fighter is very likely to be put into mass production within five years, and has a big chance of being a carrier-borne type, said Xu Yongling, aviation expert, in an interview.

It has been just two years since the successful maiden flight of the J-31 in 2012. As a fighter under test, the J-31 is now in the primary stage of performance development.

“It is still difficult for it to give a demonstration flight, but as an export-oriented aircraft, it may showcase itself by appearing and making a sensational effect at the air show,” said Xu Yongling.

In the opinion of Xu Yongling, the J-31 is a low-end version of the fourth-generation warplanes. With China's talent and technology advantages gained from its development of the third-generation warplanes, it is possible to realize design finalization and mass production of the J-31 within five years.

The engine has been a disadvantage in the aviation technology field of China. “But this disadvantage is being made up for, and there will be good news soon,” said Xu Yongling. New products will appear in fields of high-thrust engines, medium-thrust engines and small-thrust engines in China. Such primary models as the J-31 will definitely be equipped with domestically-made engines, so that it is possible for China to cease its heavy reliance on the import of engines for its major models.

Xu Yongling also pointed out that for the carrier-borne aircraft in various countries, it is the general trend for stealth fighters to be commissioned on aircraft carriers, but the possibility of using the fourth-generation warplanes to completely substitute the third-generation ones is small. The aircraft carrier fleets mainly equipped with the fourth-generation warplanes and the aircraft carrier fleets mainly equipped with the third-generation warplanes will appear simultaneously in future.

"The J-31 is very likely to be commissioned on the aircraft carrier, but no news concerning the compatibility between the J-31 and carrier-borne aircraft technology is available now. Therefore, it is estimated that the J-31 will be commissioned on the aircraft carrier later than it is commissioned into the troops," according to Xu Yongling.

Airbus is present, though they have a very pressing need to sell more A380s.

True enough but then French relations with The PRC on a political and Commercial basis are stronger. Boeing is a major America defense contractor with dozens of contracts up for bid in the US and having the show up even if its just for the commercial airlines side could unleash a biblical plague on there defense books. Well Airbus is primarily a state owned civil aviation company that dabbles in defense contracts.

Why? I thought T-50 was made and designed by the Koreans

The US is getting pathetic ... I'd understand if it was F-22 or F-35

Military equipment arrive at Zhuhai air show. Some equipment has nothing to do with "air".

I really wish they made a separate expo for army and show such stuff there. Various radars, missiles, AD systems for both ground based units and naval units are fine - but a tank and APC? That's going over the line.

Some VIP's may not be able to attend separate expo's. So, the concept is one stop super market shopping.
