Anybody have an idea the progress of the AVIC Advanced Heavy Lift Helicopter that involved partnership with Russian companies?

Thats a real heavy lift helicopter. I dont see much news about it anymore. Makes me think the project hit a dead end.

Wait for the coming Zhuhai airshow, it isn't so far away. There is a new type coming, it may (or may not) be the heavy helicopter.

No news means just that "no news". Any further thinking is a mistake. China is not US, bragging isn't our characteristic.

It is waiting for a viable engine. The Russian PD-8V engine is still under development by JSC Kuznetsov.

Heavy helicopter engine development was switched to Kuznetsov because Aviadvigatel, Saturn, and Klimov are just too overloaded with other projects. That meant this engine project kept being passed for other higher priority projects. While Kuznetsov does not have experience with helicopter engines they do make the NK-12 turboprop engine including its NK-12MSM modernization.

I assume that China could also develop an engine based on the CJ-500 engine core but it is not like that is available either.

I also thought they were waiting for the transmission also. You think they will release a prototype in 2032?

The current Russian plan is to develop the PD-8V engine and get it to work on the Mi-26 to replace the Lotarev D-136.
In theory they already have the hot section of the engine developed. The hot section is supposed to be common with the PD-8 engine to be used in the Superjet and Be-200. The hot section for the PD-8 passed bench tests even if the whole engine is not in serial production yet. PD-8V is supposed to be a drop in replacement for the Lotarev D-136 except it should be more modern and have somewhat higher power.

According to wikipedia pd-8v is for medium lift helicopters not heavy lift helicopters. wiki mentions a pd-12. unless I got everything wrong.

Wikipedia is wrong.

The Lotarev D-136 engine currently used in the Mi-26 provides 10,000 hp shaft horsepower. It uses the Lotarev D-36 engine core. The D-36 turbofan engine has 6.4 tf of thrust. The PD-8 turbofan engine has 7.8 tf of thrust. More than enough to provide 11,000 shaft horsepower.

PD-12V is the old name of the heavy helicopter engine project back when it was still at Aviadvigatel. It has since been renamed to PD-8V.
