Interesting comparison of the Z-20 prototypes no. 632 and 636: Slowly the images are getting better and better ... can't wait to see the first Z-20 in full PLA LH serials

Looks like those prototype airframes to me, or are they the LRIP airframes but the prototype paint scheme carried forward to to the production model?

However, the "632" has different antenna at the tailboom, and those "636" "666" "632" have no wirecutter installed on the front landing gears?
Could be for external ferry fuel tanks, but attack version? I know UH-60 have something like that, the MH-60L DAP, but I don't think we'd see such thing anytime soon, as the PLA needs for utility transport airframe preceeds all other things, and perhaps after enough baseline Z-20 fill the ranks and even take over from Z-9 or Mi-171, those surplus airframes could the be customised for such "riding shotgun" role...?You know I didn't notice it before but Z20 has a small stub just above the door line between the Machine gunners window and the sliding door. That looks almost like the stubs used to mount External stores on the Blackhawk.
I wonder if down the line the PLA would introduce an attack version.
